NYC Screenwriting For Shorts Workshop

5 Group Sessions + one 30 minutes one-on-one session
Dates: Saturdays March 23, 30, April 6, 13 & 20, 2019.
Time: 10AM-2PM (Group 1) & 3PM-7PM (Group 2)
Location: Cinephilia Productions, Morningside Heights/Harlem
Over the period of 5 weeks, writers will be guided through the process of developing a narrative short film screenplay using various hands-on exercises focusing on the main elements that construct a screenplay: three acts structure and thematic development; Character development; Sequencing events; The dialogue: subtext & interior monologue; Screenplay formatting; and the business of screenwriting/pitching.
To put all the elements into practice, writers will be guided through the process from developing a simple idea into a fully developed screenplay. At the end of the workshop, writers will present their screenplay during a group reading session followed by a one-on-one consultation with mentor.
The workshop will only accept a maximum of 8 screenwriters per group (two groups meeting at different times). This workshop is designed for writers of all levels.

Darine Hotait is a New York based published author, award-winning screenwriter and film director. Her films have screened at over a hundred international film festival and received a dozen Best Film Awards. Her work can be seen on SundanceTV, AMC Networks, BBC Channel, ShortsTV, IndieFlix and more. She was nominated for the prestigious Goethe Award and an EMMY Blu-Ribbon. She is the recipient of the New York State Council on the Arts Artist Grant, the New York Foundation For The Arts literary Fellowship, the AFAC Cinema Grant and the Roberto Cimetta Grant. She was selected in programs like Sundance Rawi Screenwriters' Lab and the International Scriptwriters' Maison Des Scenaristes at Cannes Film Festival.
She is the founder & CEO of Cinephilia Productions in New York City - named top 5 creative incubator focusing on the Middle East and Africa.
Darine holds an MFA in screenwriting and film directing from the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.
She has mentored numerous screenwriting and film directing workshops at film festivals and institutions around the world such as the Asian American Writers’ Workshop in New York, Arab World Institute in Paris, Arab American National Museum in Detroit, Olhares Do Mediterraneo Festival in Lisbon, Med Film Festival in Rome, Arab Film festival in Rotterdam, Mizna Literary Gathering in Minneapolis, Dubai international Writers’ Center in UAE among others.
